ASML suffered a global IT outage on Friday, impacting the company’s operations and causing issues with the company’s cleanrooms, offices, and support departments.

The outage was first reported by Dutch newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad, who noted that the company’s ability to communicate with suppliers was also impacted by the IT system going down, with employees across a number of departments having to work from home.

In a statement to Reuters, the Netherlands-based chipmaking equipment manufacturer said it was alerted to the issue on Friday morning and it was resolved by the afternoon. It added that the cause of the outage is currently under investigation.

This is the second time in a month that ASML has been impacted by a technical problem. In October, the company released its Q3 2024 results half a day earlier than scheduled, attributing the premature publication to a “technical error.”

The end of the quarter saw ASML post a disappointing set of results, with net bookings during the period only amounting to €2.6 billion ($2.83bn), around half of the €5bn ($5.4bn) figure analysts had been expecting.

In a statement published alongside the results, CEO Christophe Fouquet said: “While there continue to be strong developments and upside potential in AI, other market segments are taking longer to recover,” adding that this gradual recovery was expected to continue into 2025 and is likely leading to customer caution.
