American Tower (ATC) is one of several companies in the running to acquire French tower operator TDF Infrastructure.
As reported by the Financial Times, the US tower giant is interested in buying TDF.
However, ATC faces competition from Ardian, Swedish alternative assets investor EQT Group, and Paris-based infrastructure fund Antin.
A potential sale of TDF could generate between €8 billion ($9.41bn) and €10bn ($11.76bn).
The FT notes that Brookfield Asset Management, which is a 45 percent shareholder, has appointed bankers from BNP Paribas and UBS to find a buyer.
APG Asset Management, Arcus Infrastructure Partners, and Canadian pension fund PSP Investments jointly own 45 percent of TDF. Crédit Agricole Assurances, which has a 10 percent holding, is not pushing for a sale, note sources to the TDF.
TDF operates more than 8,000 mobile towers across France for carriers such as Orange and Free.
TDF was previously up for sale in 2023, but attempts failed due to a lack of buyer interest.
However, the sale of TDF's fiber broadband network to DIF Capital Partners last year could improve chances of a sale, said one person familiar with the situation to the FT.
None of the interested parties have commented on the reports.
American Tower already has a substantial tower footprint in France, owning 4,400 towers.
