Hungarian telecom company 4iG has officially registered a subsidiary in North Macedonia, paving the way for its entry into the market.
4iG revealed last week that it had established ONE Macedonia Telecommunications as a new carrier.
4iG first confirmed it had held talks over a potential expansion into the North Macedonian mobile market back in August, outlining its plans to expand in the Balkans.
The company already has a presence in the Balkans market, in Albania and Montenegro.
Last year, the group completed the merger of its Albanian telecom units ALBtelecom and ONE Telecommunications to create ONE Albania.
“We are committed to entering the Macedonian telecommunications market with the same dedication and innovations as we did in Albania and Montenegro," said Tamás Tábori, managing director of ONE Macedonia Telecommunications and Deputy CEO responsible for telecommunications strategy at 4iG Nyrt.
"The establishment of ONE Macedonia Telecommunications is our first significant and tangible step towards becoming a major telecommunications provider in North Macedonia."
The subsidiary is set to offer mobile, landline, fixed, and satellite telecommunications services, plus wholesale and retail IT services.
North Macedonia is currently served by a number of mobile carriers, including T-Mobile, A1 Macedonia, Lycamobile (only mobile services), and Telekabel.
Founded as Freesoft in 1990, Budapest Stock Exchange-listed 4iG provides a number of IT services including software development, managed services, and cybersecurity, as well as data center and cloud management offerings. In the last year, the company has expanded into new areas, founding its own satellite firm and buying both local satellite and telecoms firms.
4iG acquired Vodafone's Hungarian operations in 2022.
