e-shelter has secured an undisclosed investment from Boston-based private equity company ABRY Partners LLC, the investment house which recently bought Telx and Xand Corporation.

e-shelter has facilities planned in Berlin and Munich to join sites in Zurich and work on a data center in Frankfurt.
Despite the current challenging environment in the financial markets, e-shelter has managed to both attract an investor and to secure long-term funding for the development of new data centres, the firm said.

This year it opened its first data centre in Switzerland – in Rümlang near Zurich – in June 2011, and work on a further e-shelter data centre in the Frankfurt area is now beginning in Rüsselsheim. A total of 17,600 square metres of data centre space will be completed in four construction phases on the 39,000 square metre site; the first building is scheduled for completion in November 2012.

ABRY Partners has already made transactions and investments worth over $1.5 billion in the field of data-centre services.

“We are delighted at the involvement of ABRY Partners and are convinced that ABRY will be a valuable partner in e-shelter’s further expansion,” said Rupprecht Rittweger, the founder and Managing Director of e-shelter. “This investment will allow us to move forward quickly with the development of new sites. In addition to our new facility in Rüsselsheim, which will meet the latest technological standards in terms of cooling and energy efficiency, we are also

planning further centres in Berlin and Munich.
Earlier this year  ABRY Partners, LLCcompleted its acquisition of Xand Corporation, a facilities-based provider of managed data center infrastructure, private cloud, collocation, and business continuity services.

It also bought into US east Coast colocation provider Telx.
