Switzerland-based Veeam Software has designed its Veeam Availability Suite to ensure all applications and data are accessible remotely 24/7.

Veeam said it is creating a new solution category to compete with what it claims legacy data protection and backup systems could never do - enable the always-on business.

Veeam’s CEO Ratmir Timashev said the modern business cycle is no longer confined to standard 9am to 5pm, five day weeks.

“IT organizations must make applications and data available to stakeholders every minute of every day," Timashev said.

Previously achieving non-stop availability of applications and data has traditionally required a significant investment in fully redundant systems with instant failover ensuring recovery within seconds.

Although the huge investments could offer fast recovery time for just a few applications, the majority use legacy backup solutions that offer recovery time and point objectives (RTPO) of several hours or days, meaning it could not meet the requirements for the always-on business.

Veeam said its Availability Suite bridges the availability gap by providing five key enabling capabilities (Statistics from ESG’s Veeam Customer Insights Survey):
- High-speed recovery: 96% of Veeam recoveries are within recovery time objective service level agreements, compared to 78% for other solutions

- Data loss avoidance: near-continuous data protection and streamlined disaster recovery, 83% of Veeam customers are confident in their backup than they were with previous systems.

- Verified protection: guaranteed recovery of every file, app or virtual server, every time.

- Risk mitigation: low-risk deployment of new apps with a production-like test environment within Veeam Virtual Lab, leveraging investment made in backup and replication systems and data.

- Complete visibility: proactive monitoring and alerting of issues before affect operations.

The upcoming Veeam Availability Suite v8 includes Netapp and EMC Data Domain Boost integrations, Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SQL and replication enhancements.

The Veeam Availability Suite is expected to be available in Q3 2014.
