Mark Harrop

Senior Strategic Opportunities Director, Arcadis

Mark is currently building the digital future at Arcadis, the leading global natural and built asset design and consultancy firm.

Mark previously worked in BT Group Strategy as part of the mobility practice. His responsibilities included the recent £100M sale of the rights to BT’s high towers and driving BTs work with local authorities to simplify the use of street furniture for small cells. He was behind BTs early Internet of Things (IOT) strategy and specifically down-streaming smart city capabilities.

Mark's interest in IOT and smart cities began when he led BTs response to the Governments' Super Connected Cities programme, securing concession contracts and delivering free outdoor WiFi network builds in nine UK cities and beginning a deep interest in the role that technology can play in addressing the social and economic challenges faced by the UK's public sector. Mark led BT's collaboration with the Digital Catapult to build a London-wide free to use IOT innovation network and BTs involvement with the LoRa Alliance.

Mark is a seasoned telecoms executive and has held senior level product, marketing and strategy roles for telco’s of all shapes and sizes. In his time he’s done everything from running the P&L for multi-billion Pound calls and lines portfolio to delivering high impact programmes for BT’s major corporate clients.
