Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Wistron is looking to establish a production facility in the Indian state of Telangana to manufacture servers, routers, and switches.

According to a report from The Economic Times, the company is looking to invest 10 billion rupees ($135 million) in the facility and is currently evaluating land near Hyderabad, the state’s capital.

A number of electronics parks already exist on the outskirts of the city, but the source quoted by ET said no final decision had been made yet, noting that the company has seen “a few locations.”

The report further claimed that Wistron is also looking to open a laptop manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

In January 2024, Wistron’s Indian subsidiary, ICT Service Management Solutions, signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Karnataka in January 2024, following which, the Large and Medium Industries Minister for the state, MB Patil, said the company was seeking 32 acres for the project, slated to go live in 2026.

Wistron has previously had a presence in India, but sold its iPhone production facility in Kolar, Karnataka, to Tata Consulting in 2023. In December 2020, the Taiwanese company was forced to issue an apology after employees trashed the site following the underpayment of salaries.

The quoted source stated that the company had ruled out re-establishing iPhone manufacturing in the country.
