Vodafone Spain is aiming to deploy more than 40 Edge data centers this year.

The telco announced this week that it now has a total of 60 Edge data centers across Spain, and aims to reach 100 facilities by the end of the year.

Vodafone has increased the number of Edge data centers by 48 in the last eight years, consolidating its hosting, private, and hybrid cloud offerings.

Details of the location and scope of the existing facilities were not shared, nor were details of the planned deployments.

DCD has reached out for more information.

Expansion reports that the sites were previously used to provide internal network services to the operator itself.

Vodafone launched a 140 sqm (1,500 sq ft) Edge facility on the Spanish island of Majorca last year. The company also operates sites in San Severo, Palma, and Murcia.

Vodafone sold its Spanish unit to UK telecom investment firm Zegona for €5 billion ($5.4bn) last year.
