Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji have both launched 5G services in the country.

Both carriers were awarded their 5G licenses last week by Fiji's government, along with Telecom Fiji.

Vodafone and Digicel's 5G rollout will be a phased one, as agreed with the government, starting from now until 2028.

The launch today (September 15) is the first phase of the rollout. The first phase of Vodafone's launch covers Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, and Denarau. These locations are home to Fiji’s main economic corridors, ports, and medical centers.

“We are excited to go live with the first phase of our 5G rollout and are eager to collaborate with the Fiji Government and the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji to ensure a seamless 5G rollout for the nation," said Vodafone Fiji CEO Elenoa Biukoto.

Biukoto added that the telco carried out extensive user testing prior to its 5G launch. Vodafone's 5G launch in the market is part of the operator's $100 million investment in network upgrades across the country.

Meanwhile, Digicel Fiji reported that its 5G sites have delivered average speeds of 600-700Mbps, with the full potential reaching up to 1Gbps.

The carrier said 5G is now available to those with compatible devices in Suva, Nadi, and Lautoka.

The second phase of the 5G rollout for both telcos will take place next year, while phases three and four will be carried out in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
