Verizon has fixed a major outage that impacted almost all of Georgia and parts of Florida and Alabama, knocking services in the US states offline.

The unidentified issue meant that customers could not make calls, connect to data service, or send and receive text messages for hours.

“This afternoon there was a fiber issue that caused a network disruption for some customers in Georgia,” Verizon said in a statement.

“Our engineers worked to identify the issue and service has since been restored.”

The issue began at around 2PM ET on February 14, and began to improve about an hour and a half later. Services appear to have fully resumed around 6PM.
