Uzbekistan is set to build a ‘carbon-free’ data center facility.
As reported by First News Media, Sherzod Shermatov Minister of Digital Technologies said: “We are striving to turn our country into an IT hub so that IT companies can develop their business here. Given the growing demand for artificial intelligence capabilities, we are initiating the creation of a completely carbon-free data processing center together with our Saudi partners.”
He added that 80 percent of the country’s public services are already provided online.
Shermatov did not disclose which Saudi partners would be assisting with the build.
Specifications, timelines, and other details of the planned facility also remain a mystery.
Uzbekistan has no hyperscaler presence but is home to Saudi Arabia’s DataVolt.
The Uzbek Ministry of Digital Technologies offered DataVolt 10MW via a $150 million investment for its facility. DataVolt broke ground on the facility earlier this year.
At the time, it was suggested that DataVolt was also planning a 250MW campus on a 25-hectare plot in New Tashkent and another 40MW site in Bukhara.
