UScellular could be about to sell more of its licensed spectrum following big sales to T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T last year.
First reported by Light Reading earlier this week, NexTech Wireless and Nsight have filed Federal Communications Commission (FCC) paperwork to scoop up spectrum assets from the regional mobile carrier.
In its filing, telecom provider Nsight said it wants to buy some C-band and CBRS spectrum from UScellular covering parts of Wisconsin and Michigan.
Meanwhile, Kansas-based Nex-Tech Wireless, which operates a wireless network in urban and rural parts of Kansas and Colorado, wants to buy one of UScellular's 700MHz licenses that cover Kansas.
No financial details were disclosed, although Light Reading reports that Airwave Research values Nsight's spectrum deal with UScellular at $500,000, while Nex-Tech's deal is worth around $2.7 million.
DCD has contacted UScellular for further comment.
Despite being one of the biggest regional providers in the US outside of the three traditional big carriers (T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T), UScellular has struggled to compete with the bigger players.
Last year, shareholders at the company put pressure on the company to sell some of its assets, which has led to a number of big deals, totaling $6.4 billion.
The company, which has around 4.5 million customers and operates in 21 US states, agreed in May to sell its customer base and around 30 percent of the company's wireless spectrum to T-Mobile for $4.4bn.
This deal was followed by two separate spectrum sales to AT&T worth $1.01bn and Verizon for $1bn later in the year.
