Cisco has licensed two companies to deploy its Unified Computing System in two separate markets.

World Wide Technology a St. Louis, Mo., systems integrator announced it had reached the status of authorized technology provider (ATP) for Ciscos Unified Computing System in the United States.

In the UK, Logicalis announced having reached similar status.

Both companies have fulfilled training and other prerequisites required by Cisco to deploy the UCS in their respective countries, according to statements.

The UCS combines network, computational, storage and virtualization resources into one package, aimed at optimizing virtualization, improving dynamic resource allocation and reducing overall data center costs, according to a WWT statement. It is Cisco's major move into the data center server market and the networking giant is putting a lot of resource into building a channel to market for it.

Some of the qualifications necessary for achieving the ATP status include demonstrating competence in server, storage and virtualization technologies and achieving Cisco Data Center Networking Infrastructure and Data Center Storage Networking specializations.

"We believe the benefits of a virtualized IT environment from the network through the data center and to the desktop will reduce costs, increase business agility and improve productivity for our customers," WWT CEO Jim Kavanaugh said in a statement. "This authorization is a proof point that our product knowledge, engineering expertise and implementation and support capabilities are in line with that vision."
