Intel’s CEO Lip-Bu Tan is expected to visit the White House today (August 11) to meet with the President, after Trump called for Tan’s resignation last week.

The meeting, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, comes after Tan publicly stated Intel was engaged with the Trump administration to “ensure they have the facts,” regarding allegations made against Tan by Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who accused the CEO of having “deep ties to the Chinese Communists.”

The report said it’s expected that Tan will talk to the President about his commitment to the US and the importance of Intel maintaining its US manufacturing capabilities as an issue of national security.

“The United States has been my home for more than 40 years. I love this country and am profoundly grateful for the opportunities it has given me. I also love this company. Leading Intel at this critical moment is not just a job – it’s a privilege,“ Tan said in an open letter published to Intel’s website on August 8.

Tan first came under scrutiny last week, when Republican Senator Tom Cotton publicly posted a letter he had written to the chair of Intel’s board of directors to “express concern” about “deep ties to the Chinese Communists” he alleges the chipmaker’s CEO has and the “potential impact on US national security.”

Cotton’s claims relate to previous reports that Tan has invested in more than 600 Chinese firms, “some linked to China’s military,” and the fact that Tan was CEO of Cadence Design Systems during the period the company illegally sold chip design software to a Chinese military university. In late July, Cadence pleaded guilty to the charges and paid a $140.6 million fine to settle the claims.

Following the publication of Cotton’s letter on August 7, US President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that Tan “is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem.”

Tan was appointed CEO of Intel in March 2025, following the sudden ‘retirement’ of the company’s former leader, Pat Gelsinger, in early December 2024.
