Trump Mobile appears to have withdrawn its claim that its smartphone will be "Made in the USA," just a week after its announcement.

As noted by other publications, such as The Financial Times and CNBC, the Trump Organization quietly removed this statement from its website this week.

Announced last week, the Trump Organization outlined its plans to launch a mobile phone and phone service this September.

The initial claims of being "Made in the USA" have now been replaced by "Designed with American values in mind."

Despite this, a spokesperson for the Trump Organization told CNBC that the smartphone would be made in the US.

Another change is that the website now says the phone will be released "later this year," after initially stating that shipping of the T1 will begin in August/September.

Claims around the smartphone being produced in the US were met with raised eyebrows last week, given the reliance of China for smartphone production.

Counterpoint Research estimates that at least 80 percent of all smartphone components come from China. The two biggest smartphone manufacturers, Apple and Samsung, both rely heavily on China for these parts.

President Donald Trump has previously criticized Apple for its reliance on Asia. Last month, Trump threatened to impose "at least" a 25 percent import tax on iPhones not manufactured in the US.

Few details were shared about the $499 smartphone and 'Trump Mobile' service, but the company's own website claims that the project is "not designed, developed, manufactured, distributed or sold by The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals," suggesting a simple licensing deal.

The new venture is littered with references to the presidency of Donald Trump, who owns the Trump Organization.

Trump was the 45th President, and is currently the 47th. The Trump Mobile service (available on the T1 phone and other phones) costs $47.45 a month in what is known as the '47 Plan' - although that does not include tax, so it's actually $61.97.

As for the network, Trump Mobile claims that it will offer the “same coverage as the three nationwide phone service carriers." On its terms of use page, TM reveals that the plans are provided by Liberty Mobile Wireless (LMW).

Not to be confused with Liberty Global or the now-defunct Liberty Wireless, LMW is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) using T-Mobile's network that does not operate its own physical network.
