A statement from Sheriff Woody Wallace noted that Sellars was working approximately 50 feet up when he fell last week (July 14).

According to Wallace, Sellars was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of his employer was not disclosed; however, Wireless Estimator reports that Sellars worked for Trace Wireless of Groveton.

It's not confirmed whether the tower he was working on was owned by Trace Wireless.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has opened an investigation into the worker's death. OSHA was reportedly unaware of Sellars' death until contacted by Wireless Estimator.

As noted by the publication, the company's Facebook page appeared to show a collection of apparent safety violations, including one technician free-climbing without any safety harnesses. Another includes technicians working below a tower without hard hats.

DCD has contacted Trace Wireless for comment.

It is at least the second reported tower-related fatality of this year, and the second in Trinity County since November, when a 38-year-old man fell from a 500-foot cell tower, owned by Crown Castle.

DCD sends its sympathies to the family and friends of Calvin Sellars.
