Andrew Rudersdorf has moved to generative AI firm Anthropic, joining the company's data center energy team.
Rudersdorf spent the last four years at Meta, most recently on commercial energy growth and strategy. Rudersdorf departed ahead of mass layoffs at the company, including across data center operations.
"My time at Meta reinforced something I’ve long believed: energy isn’t just an operational constraint - it’s one of the most consequential levers shaping the future of technology," Rudersdorf said.
"I’m deeply grateful for the teammates, the hard problems, and the mission-driven work that pushed me every day. At Anthropic, I’ll be focused on building the energy infrastructure needed to advance safe, powerful AI at scale - and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead."
Rudersdorf joins Anthropic's new energy team, staffed by former Googler Sana Ouji, former DOE staffer Ariel Horowitz, and former Stack Infrastructure executive Tim Hughes.
The build-out of Anthropic's data center team comes as it expanded its compute portfolio, primarily through cloud contracts. The company has major Microsoft, AWS, and Google contracts, with all three hyperscalers as Anthropic investors.
In October, Google and Anthropic signed a 1GW+ cloud deal with access up to 1 million tensor processing units (TPUs), Google's AI accelerator chip. This April, Anthropic signed with Broadcom and Google for the supply of 3.5GW-worth of TPUs.
At the same time, Anthropic has pledged to invest $50 billion on data centers in the US with Fluidstack. Those same projects are being financially supported by Google.
On May 28, the company announced it had raised $65bn in a Series H funding round, giving it a post-money valuation of $965 billion, significantly more than the $852bn valuation OpenAI secured at the start of April.
