Texan Community college Texarkana College is due to break ground on a new data center.

TXK Today reports that next week the college will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building on campus called The McCulloch Industrial Technology Center that will include a new data center. The new facility will be located on Coolidge Ave, in Bowie County, Texas.

“The center will provide more than 15,000 sq ft of new training facilities for TC’s Electrical Technology program and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC) program,” reads the event invite.

“In addition, the facility will accommodate a state-of-the-art data center to serve as an anchor for expansion of broadband access providing more reliable, high-speed internet throughout our region. This additional training space will also allow for expansion of existing workforce programs and the addition of new technical training programs in the future, including plumbing.”

Established in 1927 as a public junior college, Texarkana College sits on a 90-acre campus and includes a two-acre nature reserve. The city of Texarkana straddles the border of Texas and Arkansas.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is currently seeking $50 million from the state’s American Rescue Plan Covid-19 relief funds to build a new data center. In June, Dakota State University (DSU) requested more than $6 million to replace its existing data center, as well as almost $2 million to replace IT hardware.
