Global retailer Tesco has accelerated its website and to bolster global online sales in key growth markets in Asia – including China, Thailand and Malaysia – by deploying CDNetworks’ Content Acceleration solution.

CDNetworks said its Content Acceleration solution will optimize Tesco’s consumer shopping experience by reducing website load times by over 70% in Asia. It will also provide its Dynamic Web Acceleration service to ensure efficient shopping basket experience.

Tesco – which has stores in 12 countries - said by using CDNetworks’ Content Acceleration it can reduce distance-induced latency from its local servers by caching static content locally close to the end user.

This has led to a reduction of loads time on Tesco’s web pages by over 70% and the time it takes to render cached content by up to 40%.

CD Networks said its Dynamic Web Acceleration service provides customers with a fast, efficient and glitch-free online shopping experience.

Tesco’s said by being able to an excellent online shopping environment to its customers is key to raising its profile globally but, it faces a problem with China due to internet regulations.

Tesco’s lead service manager of online international grocery, Chirag Shah said China poses certain restrictions on international websites which can be blocked if they don’t adhere to the rules.

“In addition, due to the fragmented network topology and limited peering points, it can be a challenge to provide consistent website performance across the country,” Shah said.

“In order to ensure our website was reaching our customers in China, we needed a content delivery network provider that not only has the necessary local infrastructure in place, but can also help us with the regulatory requirements".
