Telia is set to cut 500 jobs in Finland following the completion of restructuring talks with staff representatives.
As reported by Finnish website YLE, negotiations to cut jobs in the market have been underway since September.
It was in September that Swedish carrier Telia revealed plans to cut 3,000 jobs this year as part of cost reduction measures. The cuts represent 15 percent of the company's overall workforce.
"Changes of this magnitude are a heavy burden for all parties, especially when the changes affect the roles of so many of our colleagues. However, these reforms are necessary to create a faster, simpler, and more efficient Telia," said Heli Partanen, CEO of Telia Finland.
YLE reports that Telia employs more than 4,000 people in Finland, and has around 4.5 million customers in the market.
As part of the restructuring, YLE notes that 45 new jobs are set to be created in Finland, while 160 employees will transfer from Telia Company to Telia Finland.
Telia operates in Sweden, Finland, Norway, plus the Baltic nations of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The layoffs are set to impact all of these markets and are set to be confirmed by December 1, 2024.
Telia previously said that the layoffs will result in savings of 2.6 billion Swedish crowns ($239 million)
The carrier, which serves more than 25 million customers across six markets, expects to book a charge of SEK 1.4 billion ($128 million) in the second half of the current financial year.
