Telekom Malaysia (TM) has launched a new cable landing station (CLS) in Selangor.

TM Global, the wholesale business arm of TM, this week announced the completion of its fifth cable landing station in Morib, southeast of Kuala Lumpur.

Spanning 7,000 sq ft (650 sqm), the Morib CLS is an open CLS that allows multiple service providers to interconnect and exchange connectivity and data traffic.

First announced in 2022, the CLS is set to host the Sea-Me-We 6 subsea cable and can accommodate three cables in total.

Khairul Liza Ibrahim, EVP of TM Global, said: “The completion of the Morib CLS represents a pivotal step in enhancing Malaysia’s global connectivity. Strategically located along the Straits of Malacca, one of the world’s most important subsea cable routes, the open CLS serves as an ideal landing point - offering direct international access, improved route diversity, and reduced latency. Its proximity to Klang Valley’s data center clusters further supports seamless network integration, optimizing end-to-end data transmission efficiency.”

The Southeast Asia - Middle East - Western Europe 6, aka Sea-Me-We 6, submarine cable system is due to connect Malaysia with Singapore, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Pakistan, Oman, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and France.

Due to launch next year, the cable consortium includes Batelco, BSCCL, Bharti Airtel, China Unicom, Dhiraagu, Djibouti Telecom, Microsoft, Mobily, Orange, PCCW, Singtel, Sri Lanka Telecom, Telecom Egypt, Telin, and Transworld.

TM has previously joined consortiums for the Sea-Me-We 3, 4, and 5 cables, and owns or leases capacity on 33 cables overall. TM now has five CLS sites across Malaysia.
