Swedish telco Tele2 has announced that its current CEO Jean Marc Harion will step down at the end of next month for personal reasons.

The company made the announcement yesterday, noting that Harion informed the board of directors of his planned departure, which is set for June 30.

He will be replaced by Nicholas Högberg, who will take over the role from July 1, 2026. Högberg is currently deputy CEO, executive vice president and chief commercial officer B2C at Tele2.

As part of the planned change, Harion is set to retain his position as a board member at the telco.

Harion has been CEO at Tele2 since November 2024, joining the carrier from Polish mobile operator Play, where he was CEO for six-and-a-half-years. Prior to this, he was also CEO at UPC Polska, Orange Egypt, Orange Belgium, and Altice Group's Dominican Republic unit.

“It has been a true privilege to serve as CEO of Tele2 and to have played my part in the growth and success of the company," said Harion.

"It has been an exciting journey that I will look back on with gratitude and pride. I am fully committed to ensuring the steady handover of the reins to my successor in the upcoming months as I look forward to continuing to serve in my capacity as a board member."

His replacement, Högberg, joined Tele2 in May 2024 as a board member. He was previously Group CEO of Satellite Sweden. He also spent close to a decade at Three Sweden, including four years as CEO between May 2012 and May 2016.

“Through my time as Deputy CEO and previously on the board of directors of Tele2, I have gained a deep understanding of the company and of our people," said Högberg. "Tele2 stands out as a benchmark in the telecom industry and carries a distinctive challenger spirit. We will harness that drive to further develop our strong brand, keep elevating the customer experience, and unlock new avenues for growth.

Harion will remain in the role until Högberg formally takes office, and will continue to act as an advisor to Tele2 during this transition period up until December 31, 2026 to ensure a smooth handover.

Beyond Sweden, Tele2 also operates in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
