ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Thailand) today announced the official opening of its first data center in Bangkok.
STT Bangkok 1 is the first of two buildings in the STT Bangkok Data Centre Campus, located in the business district of Hua Mak. The seven-story building offers a gross floor area of 30,000 sqm and delivers up to 20MW of total IT power. STT GDC Thailand says this can be scaled up to 40MW.
The company said that STT Bangkok 1 is the largest data center in the city. SuperNAP has a 20MW data center at Chonburi Province that was launched in 2017.
STT Bangkok 1 is understood to be the first data center in Thailand to have been awarded both the TIA-942 Certification Rated-3 and Uptime Institute Tier III Constructed Facility. In terms of security, STT Bangkok 1 complies to the Threat Vulnerability Risk Assessment (TVRA) at the highest level.
“The launch of the STT Bangkok Data Centre Campus marks the first milestone for our company and a new era of digital infrastructure in Thailand,” said Supparat Singhara Na Ayutthaya, CEO of STT GDC Thailand, citing a 26.5 percent CAGR projected for the data center industry.
“We are seeing a fast-growing demand for colocation services in Thailand from enterprises and cloud service providers that are continually expanding their business platforms to meet customers' evolving demand for digital services, particularly during this prolonged Covid-19 situation,” he said.
According to Clement Goh, CEO of Southeast Asia at STT GDC, the data center giant has identified Thailand as a market that is ready for growth and is hence moving ahead of the curve to invest there to establish itself in the country.
“ST Telemedia Global Data Centres has a proven ability to replicate and scale in the markets that we have built a presence in, helping customers navigate and expand into Asia’s fastest-growing yet most complex environments,” said Goh.
“By delivering to their expectations, we have stayed adaptable and accommodating of differing customer needs yet ensuring a consistent experience in every market that we serve our customers.”
