Pošta Slovenije, the postal service of Slovenia, has handed over a data center to the country's Ministry of Digital Transformation.

The data center is located in the postal logistics center in capital city Ljubljana, and connects directly to the two existing primary data centers - also provided by the postal service - used by the Ministry in Maribor.

Pošta Slovenije has been providing the ministry with data centers for 20 years, having handed over its first facility in 2005.

Following the expansion of its data centers throughout 2024 and 2025, Pošta Slovenije now has more than 1,400 sqm (15,070 sq ft) of data center space across its facilities in Maribor and Ljubljana. Despite being the postal service, Pošta Slovenije claims to be one of the "leading providers" of data center services and cloud solutions in Slovenia.

The data center was officially handed over on September 30. Specific details about its size, capacity, and location have not been shared.

Marko Cegnar, general director of Pošta Slovenije, said during the ceremony: "Our data centers are among the most modern in Slovenia - both in terms of technology and security. Our users include organizations from a wide variety of sectors: financial institutions, telecommunications operators, IT companies, manufacturing and trading companies, online providers, and public institutions.

"We are pleased to have further upgraded our cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation by establishing a new data center, which will significantly contribute to greater reliability, security, and resilience of the national digital infrastructure and enable the further development of modern digital services in Slovenia."

Minister of Digital Transformation, Ksenija Klampfer, added: "We need a reliable ecosystem - from secure and energy-efficient data centers to the use of artificial intelligence, cloud solutions, and quality data sources. The new center that we are opening today is more than a technological facility - it is infrastructure that will enable the further development of eGovernment, modern public services, and promote innovation and the economy.

"At the same time, it proves that the state, public companies, and the technology sector can successfully cooperate in creating Slovenia's digital future. My sincere congratulations to Pošta Slovenije and everyone who contributed to this important project."

Slovenia has a relatively small data center market, with DataCenterMap listing just 21 facilities in the entire country. Within that, the majority are in Ljubljana, with a few scattered in Maribor and elsewhere. Operators include MegaTel, Telemach, Posita, SoftNet, and Datacenter.si. In May of this year, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new data center in Maribor that would be operated by the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia and house a supercomputer.
