New Version 6.0 Sentry Cabinet Power Distribution Unit (CDU) firmware by Server Technology in now released and posted on the web at www.servertech.com. This integral, web based, browser interface provides CDU users remote configuration and management capabilities with power and environmental monitoring.
Version 6.0 includes the following features:
New "look and Feel
Remote Shutdown Agent Smart
Load Shedding
Power Information
LDAPS (LDAP over TLS/SSL)
With Smart Load Shedding Server Technology is the first to offer data center managers the ability to automatically manage individual devices based on key operating parameters. These key parameters include temperature, in-feed load and UPS power status. Should the temperature or current load exceed defined thresholds or the UPS lose power and go onto battery, all or a portion of the devices in the equipment cabinet may be automatically shed to ensure longer operational life of the critical devices.
If one or more of the devices being shed is a server, a graceful shutdown may be accomplished via a Remote Shutdown Agent. This Remote Shutdown Agent intervenes before power is shutoff to the device to protect valuable data and is compatible with Windows, Linux, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, AIX and Netware operating systems. This Remote Shutdown Agent is independent of Smart Load Shedding and a CDU that is capable of working with a remote shutdown agent can also provide a graceful shutdown of servers during a standard remote re-boot, if a server locks up.
When the specific threshold is no longer being exceeded or the UPS comes off of battery a user configured autorecovery will restore power to the load shed devices. This feature is fully configurable and it is up to the operator if the system will be allowed to auto-recover on none or all of the configured key parameters i.e. temperature, current load, or if the UPS is back on main power.
The Sentry Cabinet Distribution Units (CDU's) were the first family of cabinet-level power distribution units to provide 30-amp power distribution (110V and 208V, 208V 3-Phase) directly to the equipment cabinet while providing Branch Circuit Protection within the CDU. The Sentry CDU's are also the first power distribution units to meet the stringent requirements of the National Electric Code (NEC) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 60950-1, which is now required of all new 30-amp rack-level PDUs.
