Schneider Electric has launched a lithium-ion version of its small rack-mounted UPS systems supporting European (230V) as well as US (120V) supplies.

The short-depth Smart UPS systems from Schneider's APC business are designed to fit in small cabinets such as the company's recently launched 6U wall-mounted enclosure. The 120V version of the products was launched in the US late in 2019. As a line-interactive version, this is a more flexible and affordable option for Edge applications, said the Schneider.announcement.

“Placing critical applications at the network edge presents IT operators with significant new challenges including management of equipment in locations that aren’t optimized for IT and lack on-site support,” said Rob McKernan, SVP secure power division, Europe.

The new versions make lithium-ion battery back-up technology more economic for Edge applications; the units are one to three rack units (1U-3U) high and can meet space and weight limitations as Li-ion batteries are smaller and lighter than alternatives.

Models include 500, 750, 1000 and 1500VA models, available in 1U - 3U rackmount, as well as tower or wall mount designs. Like all Schneider products, they are cloud-enabled and "EcoStruxure Ready" (manageable by Schneider's EcoStruxure).

The new units have a five-year warranty and will be available during Q1 2020.
