European cloud firm Scaleway has announced a series of developments in Europe, including a new availability zone.

The new location is in Germany, and follows other recent launches in Italy and Sweden. According to the company, it expands the options for organizations seeking cloud environments built and operated with "European values."

The Iliad-owned company now has 65 availability zones for its dedibox private cloud VPS offer and five multi-availability zone regions for public cloud in France, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Italy, and Germany.

In addition to the new availability zone, the European cloud provider also won a contract from the City of Copenhagen in Denmark following a public tender.

The contract will see Scaleway helping the city to modernize its digital infrastructure, and will provide a "secure, predictable cloud environment."

The tender specifically requested a fully European cloud provider that was operating under "stable and consistent governance."

Also in Europe, Scaleway has been selected as a subprovider of cloud infrastructure for Senacor's digital euro project. The company will provide cloud infrastructure across the EU according to the European Central Bank's requirements for the "Secure Exchange of Payment Information" component of the project.

Earlier this year, Scaleway secured France Télévisions as a customer. Under the agreement, FT will use Scaleway's cloud platform to host and process data related to its programs, as well as to develop the tools and services needed for a streaming service that would be hosted on Scaleway.

The cloud provider is a part of the Virt8ra consortium, having joined earlier this year. Virt8ra was launched in January 2025 as a testbed platform; a collaboration between Arsys, BIT, the Gdańsk University of Technology, Infobip, Ionos, Kontron, Mondragon Corporation, and Oktawave. It was coordinated by OpenNebula Systems, an open-source cloud and Edge platform.
