Cryptomine firm Satoshi Energy has launched a behind-the-meter data center at a wind farm in Texas.

The company and energy firm Clearway this week announced the energization of a colocated high-performance computing data center at the Elbow Creek wind project in Howard County, Texas.

The facility, hosted at Clearway’s 122MW Elbow Creek wind farm in Howard County, was developed in collaboration with the energy firm.

Any details on the data center weren’t shared. Clearway said the first phase of the data center has been energized, with the second phase to be completed in 2026. The Elbow Creek wind project was originally commissioned in 2008 and underwent a repowering in 2019.

“This project delivers a compelling example of what’s possible when energy and compute are designed to work together from the start,” said Bob Bonner, VP of development at Satoshi Energy. “We appreciated Clearway’s openness to innovative commercial models and their collaborative approach to solving infrastructure challenges. The result is a strategically colocated development that showcases how aligning flexible load with generation can unlock meaningful value for both power producers and data infrastructure companies.”

In the release, Satoshi claims 500MW of operational data center capacity and a further development pipeline totaling 4GW.

Founded in 2018, the company says it has deployed capacity at three locations in Texas, totaling 470MW of capacity. Some 1.2GW of capacity at wind and solar farms across Texas are meant to go live next year.

Clearway Energy Group’s portfolio comprises approximately 11.8GW of gross generating capacity in 26 states, including 9.1GW of wind, solar, and battery energy storage assets. The company signed a 335MW wind PPA with Microsoft earlier this year.
