Sand Springs, Oklahoma, will consider a proposed data center dubbed “Project Spring” on December 3, 2025.
The city’s planning commission will consider a rezoning request for a 827-acre plot of land, situated approximately at the area of North Highway 97 and Rock School Road at the City of Sand Springs Municipal Building.
Local TV station KTUL reported that the city council had “not taken a position on these proposals.”
“The city encourages all citizens interested in these matters to attend the public meetings and share their input,” the city council said in a statement.
“The city of Sand Springs respects the rights of property owners to request changes in land use, as well as the rights of residents to express their views to the planning commission and city council.”
Residents in Sand Springs organized a separate meeting on November 18, while developers also held a meeting about the project.
The Protect Sand Springs Alliance, which organized the opposition meeting, said that it is dedicated to “bringing together the voices of our community to vehemently oppose the city council and the companies trying to ruin our beautiful community.”
“Small communities across the entire country are being devastated by data centers and all of their negative effects being forced into their back yards with little to no input or recourse from the residents who suffer the consequences,” according to the group’s website.
The group has, at the time of writing, raised more than $6,000 to support opposition to Project Spring.
