Indonesian conglomerate Salim Group has bought out Keppel’s share of a data center venture, taking control and relaunching the company as a standalone operator.

Salim Group has acquired Keppel Data Centres’ ownership interest in the joint venture formerly known as IndoKeppel Data Centres, relaunching the unit as IndoData Data Center.

The re-launched IndoData announced the news this week, with Salim actually buying out Keppel’s share in December. Following the transaction, the venture is now fully owned by the Salim Group. Terms of the deal were not shared.

The companies first announced they were partnering on a project outside Jakarta in Bogor City in 2018. Originally due to launch in 2020 but delayed due to Covid-19, the first 5MW phase of IndoKeppel Data Centre 1/IKDC 1 launched in 2022.

The relaunched IndoData said it has up to 500MW of power capacity secured under contract with PLN.

“Our vision is to be the trusted partner for sustainable, reliable, and future-ready digital infrastructure—helping our customers scale quickly while supporting the continued growth of Indonesia’s digital economy,” IndoData said on LinkedIn.

Ronald Setiawan, formerly director of IndoKeppel Data Centres and recently appointed managing director of IndoData, this week announced that an additional 6MW of IT load has been completed and delivered at the facility.

“This built-to-suit expansion was developed for one of our existing hyperscale clients, reflecting their continued trust in IndoData’s ability to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performance data center infrastructure,” he said.

Indonesian conglomerate Salim Group is owned by Anthoni Salim, who also owns a stake in local operator DCI Indonesia. Salim Group's Hong Kong-listed investment holding company First Pacific also controls Philippine telco PLDT.

Founded in 1972, Salim Group’s assets include Indofood, the world's largest instant noodle producer; car manufacturer Indomobil; Indomaret, Indonesia's largest convenience store chain; and Bogasari, a large flour-milling operation.
