Russian delivery company CDEK has migrated its operations from a data center in Novosibirsk to Moscow via plane.

As reported by ww1.ru and CNews, the migration effort has covered 95 percent of CDEK's operations, and required the migration of 400 interconnected systems across 3,000km (1,864 miles), some of which had to be physically flown by plane.

The key phase of the migration was completed in just 24 hours on January 1, 2026, during which CDEK logistics specialists transported 300TB of data on "physical media" via plane between the two locations.

In addition to the physical relocation, both the Moscow site and the Novosibirsk data center had "dedicated communication channels" with 20Gbps and three Internet channels (12 Gbps) to ensure high-speed data transmission. In total, 1.17 petabytes had to be migrated to the new facility, around 90 percent of the company's total data. A further 0.4PB will be migrated in the future.

According to a CDEK representative, the main challenge was "signal latency, which could have complicated the service." The migration date was chosen so "customers wouldn't notice anything."

Systems moved included business systems, technical infrastructure, services, and platforms.

Since beginning the migration, CDEK has installed 238 pieces of equipment in its new data center in Moscow, including 83 servers and 86 storage systems, since the start of the year. The new data center location is hoped to enable CDEK to increase application speed and security level, with the Novosibirsk site likely to have lower data transfer feeds and fewer options for redundant data transmission channels.

In 2024, CDEK was hit by the international hacker group Head Mare, forcing it to suspend the acceptance and delivery of shipments. The company was founded in Novosibirsk by Leonid Goldort and Vyacheslav Piksayev in 2000. It began operating in Moscow in 2001, and in Saint Petersburg in 2003. In 2025, the company shipped nearly 150 million parcels, and processes more than 350,000 per day.

The data centers in question have not been identified by CDEK or other publications. Moscow is by far the country's largest data center market with operators including IXcellerate, Nubes, Croc, Rostelecom, and Linxdatacenter. Novosibirsk, meanwhile, has just a handful of data centers. Operators include MegaFon, Adman, Nextremum, and Key Point Group.

Novosibirsk is a city in Siberia, located in Southern Russia. Moscow, meanwhile, lies more than 3,000 km to the west, in the European side of the country.
