Canadian telco Rogers Communications has upgraded its 5G network at the Rogers Stadium in Toronto as part of a CA$5.2 million ($3.79m) investment.
The company said it has installed a 5G+ in-building network system and antenna infrastructure at the venue, which hosts 50,000 people.
The carrier claims that its 5G+ technology provides faster speeds, lower latency, and more capacity for those attending events at the venue.
Rogers' 5G+ technology uses 3,500 MHz spectrum, and is based on 5G Standalone (5G SA) as opposed to 5G Non-Standalone (5G NSA).
Rogers Stadium is the new seasonal outdoor concert venue at YZD (former Downsview Airport Lands) in Toronto.
Rogers said that its team spent 3,800 hours planning and 2,300 hours installing more than 50 antennas around the lower bowl and at the top of Rogers Stadium more than 20 meters (65 feet) from the ground.
According to the company, the infrastructure installed is equivalent to the coverage provided by 14 towers in a downtown area.
The deployment builds on Rogers' CA$8m ($5.83m) investment last year to upgrade its 5G network at Rogers Centre in Toronto and CA$10m ($7.28m) to install a new in-building network system at BC Place in Vancouver.
Rogers launched its 5G mobile network in January 2020, with initial deployments in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.
