Roadrunner Venture Studios has been selected by the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) to lead a $25 million quantum initiative in the state.
The Roadrunner-led coalition will bring together quantum researchers, practitioners, and investors, including Elevate Quantum, Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs, QuEra, Resonance, and the Center for Quantum Information and Control at the University of New Mexico.
The partners will work together to establish a quantum campus in Downtown Albuquerque’s Innovation District. The campus will house infrastructure necessary for the future development of quantum technologies, such as dilution refrigerators, a quantum testbed, quantum packaging and demonstration facilities, a rapid prototyping facility, and a multi-node quantum network.
Additionally, Roadrunner has pledged to match the campus build with the establishment of a quantum-specific branch of its venture studio, which the company said will be devoted to identifying new quantum talent and scaling up quantum companies. The VC firm added that the new studio will also support the development of a new capital network explicitly for investing in New Mexico-based quantum startups.
In accepting the contract from the EDD, Roadrunner and the coalition have committed to achieving a number of deliverables by the summer of 2026, when the initiative concludes. This includes: creating or attracting at least three quantum startups; deploying private capital into quantum startups; demonstrating use of the space established by the coalition; and increasing collaboration across institutions and companies.
New initiatives and additional details about the quantum campus and studio are expected to be announced by the group in the coming months.
“New Mexico has long lived in the public imagination. It’s a place that has led America in the most important times with the most critical innovations — a fulcrum for national endeavor,” said Adam Hammer, co-founder and CEO of Roadrunner Venture Studios. “In this pivotal moment for New Mexico and for America, we are stepping forward to help lead the coming quantum revolution. To win in something as high-stakes as quantum, we need to find exceptional people, forge breakthrough companies, and fuel the second wave of great American quantum companies for global scale.”
