Quantum computing company Rigetti claims to have halved its two-qubit gate error rate on its 84-qubit Ankaa-3.
The company said it had also achieved its mid-year performance milestone of 99.5 percent median two-qubit gate fidelity on its chiplet-based 36-qubit system.
Founded in 2013 to commercialize quantum computing technologies, in late December 2024, California-based Rigetti launched its 84-qubit Ankaa-3 system, which the company says features an “extensive hardware redesign that enables superior performance.”
It includes a cryogenic hardware design to reduce the amount of metal at the refrigerator’s coldest stage, increasing efficiency and reducing the cost per qubit, and an improved qubit chip consisting of a new metal deposition method for qubit circuitry and an optimized circuit layout.
A month before launching the Ankaa-3, Rigetti announced it had raised $100 million through the sale of common stock, as part of its “at-the-market” equity offering program that began in March.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned 36-qubit system is set to be released on August 15, with Rigetti also planning to release a 100+ qubit chiplet-based system, which demonstrates the 99.5 percent median two-qubit gate fidelity rate before the end of 2025.

In May 2025, the company posted total revenues of $1.5 million for Q1 2024, while operating loss for the quarter was $21.6m.
