Pan-African data center firm Raxio Group has launched a new data center in Angola.

The company this week announced the opening of a facility in Cacuaco outside the capital, Luanda.

The 3MW facility has the capacity to host 800 racks across 19,000 sqm (204,515 sq ft).

“This facility is truly a game-changer for Angola,” said Robert Skjødt, CEO of Raxio Group. “It’s not just about infrastructure - it’s about creating opportunity. We are laying the foundation for a thriving digital economy that supports local innovation, empowers entrepreneurs, and helps Angola optimise its geolocation to elevate its role as a regional technology hub.”

The company said Raxio Angola is its largest facility to date and offers more than double the capacity of any existing data center in the country.

The $30 million facility is Raxio’s sixth data center. First announced in January 2023, with ground broken in September 2023, the company said it aims to increase the site’s capacity to 7MW within five years.

Maria Miguel Pinto, Raxio Angola’s general manager, said: “By bringing world-class infrastructure, we are unlocking faster, more reliable Internet and creating the conditions for Angola’s future competitiveness and digital independence.”

The site features an on-site water treatment plant, which recycles and reuses water for non-potable functions, including cooling.

Established in 2018, Raxio Group is part of the US-based Roha Group investment firm and has received financial backing from Meridiam.

The company launched its first data center in Uganda in 2021 and has since expanded into Ethiopia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Côte d’Ivoire, with another planned in Tanzania.
