The planned sale of bankrupt station owner High Plains Radio Network has fallen through.

As reported by Radio Insight, E Radio Network will not close its purchase of 20 stations from High Plains Radio Network after pulling out.

The publication reports that the majority of these stations will go offline in Texas and Arkansas for the foreseeable future.

High Plains Radio Network filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Northern District of Texas in March of last year.

Radio Insight reports that the bankruptcy proceeding was triggered by a tower lease dispute with communications infrastructure provider Vertical Bridge.

FCC filings from Technical Consultant Charles Jayson Brentlinger note that the failure to close lies with E Radio Network, which withdrew from the $1 million acquisition agreement.

“Due to the failure of the court-approved and FCC-approved buyer to close on the purchase of the stations, and as the buyer was the Local Marketing Partner, the stations must go silent until a new buyer, which is currently in process, can be approved by the US Bankruptcy Court and the FCC," wrote Brentlinger.

Affected stations include Classic Hits “EZ Rock” on 690 KAFN in Benton, KCMC-FM, KDAV, KDEL-FM, KJOK, KKNM, KLVQ, KREW, KRZP, KVRC, KVWC, KWPS-FM, KYXK, KZYP, and KZZN.

It's the third time that High Plains Radio Network has attempted to sell the stations, with two previous deals failing to materialize in 2020 and 2023 with Brentlinger’s Broadcast Industry Group.

The stations will remain off-air until a buyer for the radio group can be approved by the US Bankruptcy Court and the FCC.
