Rackspace has launched ObjectRocket, its NoSQL MongoDB Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS), in its UK data center.

ObjectRocket is a fully managed MongoDB service built with tools and application programming interfaces (API’s) designed to maximise uptime and reduce administration time.

The service is scalable which allows it grow with customers’ business demands.

Rackspace said its customers will be able to choose from a range of ‘transparent’ pricing plans based upon individual data storage requirements.

It said it has ‘precision-tuned’ its delivery of MongoDB to make it faster for customers to use.

To minimalize the possibility of downtime it said data is multiplexed across a number of physically separate systems.

MongoDB is essentially a power socket for applications; users just plug it into ObjectRocket and Rackspace manages all the scaling, sharding and performance which frees developer time to focus 100% on the application itself.

Rackspace International’s VP of technology Nigel Beighton said since introducing ObjectRocket in February 2013 the company’s presence within the NoSQL database market had "flourished".

“Bringing this technology to our local European customer base is integral to expanding the total service offering available from our UK data center," Beighton said.

"We can now provide MongoDB with low latency, high-bandwidth proximity to our other cloud and hosting solutions.”
