Hosting service provider Rackspace launched a Web site dedicated to analysis of developments in the multi-faceted market of providing computing as a service and hired a veteran hosting industry analyst Andrew Schroepfer to run it.

"We have countless business customers tell us they are finished buying servers and are looking for a computing partner," Rackspace President and CEO Lanham Napier said in a statement. "People don't want to buy standalone computing, they want computing as a service with fanatical support."

Rackspace is touting ongoing industry changes as "the next era of computing," saying economics of outsourcing IT trump those of purchasing and supporting servers. The company launched NoMoreServers.com on Wednesday.

"The economics of cloud computing are making the move to computing-as-a-service providers unavoidable," President of Rackspace Cloud Lew Moorman said. "Costs are lower, friction is removed and finally, IT departments can fulfill the growing demands of their users. This is part of a 20-year trend and there is a lot to digest. Andy and NoMoreServers.com is devoted to guiding IT shops through this change."

Schroepfer started in the hosting industry in the late 1990's as an analyst for Piper Jaffray, where he ran VoIP market statistics. He then moved on to analyze the Internet infrastructure services industry for Goldman Sachs and finally, in late 2000, Schroepfer founded Tier 1 Research.
