Pure Storage has partnered with memory provider SK Hynix to deliver QLC (Quad-level cell) flash storage products to hyperscale data centers.
According to the announcement, Pure Storage will integrate its data storage platform with SK Hynix's QLC NAND technology to provide “ultrafast, low-latency” solutions that are purpose-built to support “exascale, data-intensive workloads.”
Unlike standard HDDs, the combined solution will provide rack-dense and scalable systems to address demanding storage scalability needs, Pure Storage said. The company also claims the offering will help to lower energy consumption and operating costs, whilst enabling customers to overcome power availability constraints.

“By combining SK Hynix's advanced QLC products with Pure Storage’s host-based flash management architecture, we can deliver an optimized solution for the hyperscale production environment and AI infrastructure. Pure Storage can further elevate performance, scalability, reliability, and energy efficiency, addressing the unique demands facing today’s data-centric industries.”
QLC flash storage is a capacity-optimized NAND memory technology that can lower the total cost of ownership for read-centric loads, providing increased capacity with the speed of all-flash. However, QLC storage is also less durable than other solutions, offering 1,000 program-erase cycles before they start to break down and become unreadable, compared to SLC SSDs, which can withstand more than 100,000 read cycles, on average.
