NASK, a research institute under Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs, has deployed its first AI computing cluster.

In a statement, NASK said the system cost 30 million Polish złoty ($8.1 million) and will be made available to both government and enterprise.

The cluster comprises 96 liquid-cooled Nvidia B200 GPUs, more than 1TB of RAM, and more than 1PB of All-Flash NVME provided by Weka’s data platform. No information about the system’s overall compute power has been disclosed.

The investment was financed by the Ministry of Digital Affairs.

"Training models, analyzing massive data sets, testing new solutions – all of this requires appropriate technical support. We are investing not only in AI factories in Poznań and Kraków, but also increasing computing power at the ministry,” said Dariusz Standerski, deputy minister of digital affairs. “The NASK AI Laboratory is an investment in AI implementations in administration, as well as combining research with innovation. We are developing the Polish AI ecosystem.”

The NASK supercomputer is not the only system Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs has funded. In partnership with the Euro High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking, the government department put up 50 percent of the funds for EuroQCS-Poland, a 20-qubit trapped-ion quantum computer, housed at the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC).
