Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) is down for millions of users across the world.

The outage has kept PlayStation's online gaming network offline since the night of 7 February, with little communication from the company regarding the cause.

PlayStation's status page has noted that a number of services have been impacted by the outage, including account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and the PlayStation Direct website.

It has meant online aspects of games such as Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty have been inaccessible to users.

Services have been down since late yesterday (February 7) evening, with more than 71,000 users reporting the outage on Downdetector, peaking at 6:52pm (ET).

Sony, the company that owns PlayStation, has yet to provide a cause for the outage or even a statement.

Users online have hit out at the company for a lack of updates.

It's not the first time that PlayStation has been hit by a major network disruption.

A previous outage in 2011 lasted for 23 days after a hack occurred between 17 April, 2011, and 19 April, 2011. That particular outage forced Sony to deactivate the PlayStation Network servers on 20 April.

PSN also suffered a major outage three years ago shortly after a localized outage led to PlayStation title Gran Turismo 7 being unplayable for more than a day.

Update, February 9, 2025: PlayStation said on Sunday that its network was running again as normal, but did not give a reason for the cause of the major outage.

"Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience," said PlayStation in a statement. "All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service."
