A proposal to build a data center worth $1.7 billion in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, has been withdrawn by the developer.

Property developer Inch & Company had applied for permission to build five data centers totaling around 640,000 sq ft (59,460 sqm) across 100 acres of land near Mt. Pleasant Road. This required the rezoning of around 58 acres of land to industrial, which would then be joined up with other land parcels to make up the full 100.

But the lawyers representing 1235 Martina Drive Owner, a joint venture between Inch and developer Eastern Land & Resources, yesterday sent a letter to the Board of Supervisors in South Annville Township saying that it had “decided to no longer pursue the development of a data center in South Annville Township.”

“By way of this letter, petitioner hereby withdraws its request,” the letter concludes.

The South Annville Township Planning Commission voted against recommending the rezoning request last Tuesday, and anti-data center organizer Michael Schroeder told Lebtown that a petition against the facility had gathered over 500 signatures.

Most of Pennsylvania’s data centers are located in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Lebanon County does not seem to have any facilities at the moment, according to Data Center Map.
