Software-defined networking vendor Pica8 has released what it claims is a "complete” line of white box switches optimized for various data center applications and conditions.

The company said the new line will be able to perform on Linux Network and OpenFlow operating systems.

Following the release of its P-3297 open switch, the company claims it will be the first provider to ship three 48x1GbE models, four options of 10GbE and plans for 40G platforms as well as Trident 2 VXLAN support.

It said the extended range will enable its switches to be “seamlessly” deployed into existing topologies or facilitates customers being able to roll out OpenFlow spine and leaf topologies.

IDC’s research director of datacenter networks Brad Casemore said Pica8’s go-to-market strategy “mirrors” the competitive nature of cloud services aiming to deliver the highest quality service at the lowest possible costs.

“To do this, cloud providers are looking for new ways to deploy a new operational framework based on hardware abstraction leveraging commoditized white box hardware, which lowers costs all while working with existing capital investments."
