US pharmaceutical company Lilly has begun using its Nvidia-powered AI supercomputer, housed at its headquarters in Indianapolis.
Dubbed LillyPod, the system is the world’s first Nvidia DGX B300 SuperPOD and was assembled in four months, Lilly said. It was originally unveiled during Nvidia’s GTC event in Washington, DC, in November 2025.
Comprising 1,016 Nvidia Blackwell Ultra GPUs, the SuperPOD offers more than 9,000 petaflops of AI performance and will be used to train biomedical foundation and frontier models, reducing drug discovery timelines and enabling accelerated breakthroughs in genomics, personalized medicine, and molecular design.
The system can also be used internally by employees to build chatbots, agentic workflows, and research lab agents, and Lilly is aiming to have the AI infrastructure running on 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030, using “efficient liquid cooling and minimal incremental energy impact.”
“It’s a big day for us with the supercomputer coming on board, but it’s a day 150 years in the making,” said Diogo Rau, EVP and chief information and digital officer at Lilly. “LillyPod is a powerful symbol of who we are and why we do this work: to make life better for people around the world. We are, right here, right now, at the right moment to advance biology in a way that has just never been done before.”
Thomas Fuchs, SVP and chief AI officer at Lilly, added: “Computation is at the heart of biology, and it is at the heart of science. Being able to compute at scale is not something optional for a company like ours; it is absolutely necessary.
