US manufacturing firm Parker Hannifin has signed a deal to supply key equipment as part of a delivery of 29 gas turbines to Stargate’s flagship data center in Abilene, Texas.
Parker will supply the data center with key equipment such as the inlet filtration systems for the GE Vernova LM2500XPRESS dual-fuel machines, each with a capacity of 35MW. The turbines will have a combined capacity of 1.015GW.
Parker will supply the filterhouse and filtration system together with its clearcurrent PRO cartridge filters, to maintain performance across the turbines' operating life.
The company will also supply every air intake with power augmentation via recirculating water evaporative coolers, as well as noise control through high-performance acoustic silencers.
“Data centers need flexible and reliable power 24/7 but rightly expect that performance to be delivered in the cleanest way possible. Aeroderivative gas turbine packages utilising local associated gas reserves are among the cleanest energy creation technologies available today but rely on effective filtration packages, including air intake cooling and acoustic silencing, to ensure long-term performance with minimal environmental footprint,” said Pete McGuigan, market manager, Filtration & Energy Solutions Division, Parker Filtration Group.
The value and deployment timeline of the agreement were not disclosed. DCD has reached out for further information.
Phase one of Stargate’s Abilene campus officially went live late last month. Data center campus developer Crusoe said it had energized the first two buildings at the 1.2GW site, which were being used by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) for OpenAI. The two buildings span 980,000 sq ft (91,045 sqm) and support 200MW+ of IT.
Construction at the site began in June 2024. Work on the second phase of the project started in March, aiming to add six more buildings to the campus.
Following the completion of the project's second phase, it will span 4 million square feet, and have a total power capacity of 1.2GW. It is expected to be completed in mid-2026.
To power the site, the developers have prioritized off-grid natural gas power. At the start of the year, it was reported that the developers had submitted an application to site a natural gas plant with the data center. The filings reveal that the plant could provide the data center with up to 360.5MW of power.
The Stargate project is a joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, and investment firm MGX. The partners have committed to investing up to $500 billion into artificial intelligence infrastructure over the next four years. Last month, the JV announced five new Stargate campuses across the US in partnership with Oracle.
To power the facilities, Oracle signed a deal with VoltaGrid, a natural gas microgrid firm, to supply 2.3GW of natural gas capacity to the data centers.
