Oracle has launched a public cloud region in Casablanca, Morocco.

The cloud company officially shared that the region was up and running on April 7, with plans to enter the country first revealed in March 2024. Despite this, OCI documentation suggests that one availability domain in the region has actually been available since late February of this year.

N+One Datacenters is hosting the cloud region. According to the company's website, it operates six data center buildings with an IT capacity of 4.5MW across 4,000 sqm (43,055 sq ft) in Morocco, split between Nouaceur (an area of Casablanca) and Settat, a city between Rabat and Marrakesh.

“The opening of our cloud region in Casablanca is a major milestone in our commitment to supporting Morocco’s growth and its position as a regional hub for AI and digital innovation,” said Cormac Watters, executive vice president and general manager, EMEA, Oracle.

“With Oracle Cloud Casablanca Region, we are providing organizations across Morocco and North Africa with the secure, high-performance infrastructure they need to innovate with AI and the cloud, and to compete globally.”

According to Oracle, the region makes it the first hyperscaler to launch a public cloud region in North Africa.

Big Red is planning a second region in Settat, Morocco, though it has not provided a timeline for this. Also in Africa, Oracle operates an existing region in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is planning a region in Nairobi, Kenya. iXAfrica will be the host company for the Nairobi region
