NcodiN, a French optical interposer startup, has closed a €3.5 million ($3.8m) funding round, with Elaia, Earlybird, and OVNI Capita amongst the investors.
Founded in 2023 by Francesco Manegatti, Bruno Garbin, and Fabrice Raineri, the company is looking to improve chiplet-to-chiplet communications with optical interposer technology.
NcodiN’s technology comprises of the on-chip integration of ultra-small nanolasers and nanodetectors that enable ultra-high integration density of more than 10,000 components per cm2. When attached to a single chiplet, the technology can then be used to beam information between multiple chiplets.
The company said the technology will enable “innovative ways for the on-chip convergence of electronics and photonics,” ultimately allowing for high-bandwidth, efficient, and low-latency data communications between chiplets.
“When I created NcodiN with my associates Bruno and Fabrice last year, we could not imagine how far we would have gone in such a short amount of time. This achievement is the result of our hard work, passion and commitment. And it is just the beginning,” Manegatti wrote in a post on LinkedIn.
He added: “With the capital raised, we are going to scale our R&D and product teams, develop our first product generation and start the pre-industrialization of our unique technology, to continue our journey towards its massive adoption within AI-dedicated processors.”
Manegatti and Garbin were both PhD students at Centre de Nanosciences et de Nanotechnologies where they studied the dynamics of III-V semiconductor photonic crystal nanocavities. Raineri is a former associate professor at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique.
