Qatari telco Ooredoo is planning to sell its Indonesian data center business to Hong Kong-based Big Data Exchange (BDx), according to reports.

The data centers are currently owned by Ooredoo's telco subsidiary PT Indosat, which has agreed to a $6 billion merger with CK Hutchison's local business and is now looking to sell some 75 percent of its Indonesian data centers, keeping a minority stake. Indosat has now chosen the pan-Asian colocation provider BDx as the preferred bidder, according to a report on Bloomberg.

BDx, owned by I Squared Capital, is expected to pay $200 million to $250 million, the report said.

This is still to be confirmed and talks could break up, but Indosat reportedly wants strategic partners to build the data center arm and strengthen services.

Elsewhere, Indosat is believed to be mulling a sale of its Philippines data centers. Rival telecoms businesses Globe Telecom Inc and PLDT are also thought to be considering selling their data centers in the Philippines.
