Developed by HF Sinclair’s Lubricants & Specialties business, Innovate is a series of dielectric thermal management fluids formulated with proprietary, ultra-pure, highly refined alkanes (HRA) technology.

The range comprises three products: Yarra, Garda, and Peyto. Each has different viscosity and thermal conductivity properties.

The company said HRA enables heat transfer capabilities while offering broad compatibility with materials required for immersed compute applications and oxidative stability.

“The growth of new, advanced computing technologies required to power the digital revolution places significant demand on data centers,” said Matt Joyce, SVP of lubricants and specialties at HF Sinclair. “We are confident that Innovate will play a key role in enabling the further growth of technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and blockchain.”

He continued: “Through our fundamental research and formulating capabilities, as well as our established commercial brands, the HF Sinclair Lubricants and Specialties business has a proven track record of deploying dielectric fluids to protect electrical infrastructure in demanding environments. We’ve applied this expertise to Innovate, which is designed to meet the unique challenges of high-performance computing.”

HF Sinclair was founded as Sinclair Oil Corporation in 1916. and the General Appliance Corporation in 1947 and Sinclair Oil Corporation in 1916. General Appliance Corporation changed its name to Holly Corporation, and later to HollyFrontier after acquiring Frontier Oil in 2011, the company became HF Sinclair after acquiring Sinclair Oil in 2021.

HF Sinclair’s move comes as many petrochemical firms look to diversify into serving data center customers. Oil companies such as Shell, Castrol, ExxonMobil, ENEOS, Gulf Oil, Petronas and Perstorp, and SK Enmove are among the businesses bringing immersion cooling fluids to market. US food giant Cargill and chemical firm Chemours have also launched fluids.
