Local conglomerate Océinde has inaugurated its carrier-neutral data center on Reunion Island.

Announced in a LinkedIn post, the company's Omega 1 facility is now live.

The 1MW, 120-rack project has seen a total investment of €10 million ($10.9m).

Omega 1 is located in the Le Port Commune in the northwest of the island, though further specifications and details have not been shared.

Plans for the facility were first announced in November 2022, with construction beginning in May this year.

Founded in 1970, Océinde’s investments have included building materials firms, paint companies, aquaculture and fishing, heat pump provider Sdeec, and Reunion telco Zeop.

Reunion is home to three cable landing stations - Le Port, Saint Paul, and Sainte Marie - which host the Lower Indian Ocean Network (LION), SAFE, and Meltingpot Indianoceanic Submarine System (METISS) cables.

French MSP Exodata operates a facility at the University of Reunion in Saint Denis.
